US Ivry Handball

Founded in 1947, US Ivry Handball are one of France’s most iconic clubs, and forged their legend with eight French championship wins between 1963 and 2007. Their relegation to the ProLigue in 2014 ended an amazing run of 57 consecutive seasons in the top tier. Over the years, US Ivry have nurtured a number of leading players, among them Paris Saint-Germain right winger Luc Abalo, who played for the club’s first team between 2002 and 2008. A national champion with the Red and Black in 2007, he was voted the league’s MVP that season.

The club ended the 2017/18 Lidl Starligue season in tenth place, securing their place in the elite with a last-day victory over USAM Nîmes Gard.

Paris SG - US Ivry Handball

On the opening day of the 2018/19 Lidl Starligue at Pierre de Coubertin, the Parisians had won 38-21 thanks to an excellent Uwe Gensheimer. US Ivry had been defeated at home 37 - 24 against the Red and Blue on Matchday 20. Four players performed in scoring more than 5 goals: Hansen, Abalo, Stepancic, Remili.

As part of 2019-20 Lidl Starligue matchday 7, Ivry was welcoming Paris Saint-Germain. Leader of the championship, the Red and Blue confirmed their status by winning 24-30.

Team captain François-Xavier Chapon retired in the 2017/18 season after 14 years with the club. During the course of his career, the goalkeeper made no fewer than 2,443 saves, the fourth-highest total in the history of the Lidl Starligue, and 217 penalty saves, more than any else has ever managed in the league. His departure marked the end of one of the most glorious chapters in the history of the Red and Black.

US Ivry Handball youth products Benjamin and Mathieu Bataille are two of the club’s leading players. The younger of the two siblings, centre back Benjamin has been with the club since 2010, while pivot Mathieu made his debut for them in 2007. The brothers were in prolific form in the 2015/16 campaign, scoring 193 goals between them.

Auguste Delaune

The Auguste Delaune has been US Ivry Handball’s home since it opened in 1953. One of the first arenas built in France, it currently has a capacity of 1,500. Nearly 15,000 spectators flocked to the Auguste Delaune to support Les Rouges et Noirs over the course of last season, which produced a memorable derby against Paris Saint-Germain and a superb victory over HBC Nantes.

Situated in the centre of Ivry-sur-Seine, the stadium is well served by public transport and Line 7 of the Paris metro (Mairie d’Ivry stop). Located close to the football stadium and the town’s swimming pool, it is also easy to reach by car and has several car parks nearby.
