Pick Szeged

Founded under the name of Szegedi Elore in 1960, which translates as “Onwards Szeged”, the club became SC Pick Szeged in 1993, following a partnership signed by the club with a company called Pick. The club’s first trophy success came in the Hungarian Cup in 1979 and they secured their first league title in 1996, which is when their rivalry with Veszprém KSE, Hungary’s other leading club, began.

Regular qualifiers for European club competitions, the Red and Blacks beat Montpellier Handball to win the 2013 EHF Cup, their biggest achievement on the continental scene to date.

They have been coached since 2013 by Juan Carlos Pastor, who took charge of Spain between 2004 and 2008 and led them to gold at the 2005 World Championships in Tunisia. On 2018-19 season, Pick Szeged won their first Hungarian title in ten years.

On 2018-19 season, the Parisians have defeated Szeged 33-31 at Coubertin on Matchday 5, for a 32nd undefeated match in a row in Europe. The Red and Blue whave been defeated 33-32 in Hungary on Matchday 10, depsite Nedim Remili's good performance.

The June 27th, 2019 draw brought them back together within Group A, with FC Barcelona, Aalborg, Flensburg, PPD Zagreb, Elverum and Celje Pivovarna Lasko. At the end of the group stage, they finished at the 3rd position behind Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. They will be playing against HC Vardar on Round of 16.

In the Champions League's first game at Coubertin, the Parisians won 30-25 against the Hungarians. On the return match in Szeged on February 16th, 2020, they have been victorious over Paris Saint-Germain 32 - 29.

Pick Szeged’s arch rivals are Veszprém KSE, who have a knack of beating them to major titles. The Red and White have finished runners-up in the Hungarian league 17 times, with Veszprém KSE beating them to the title on the last 15 occasions that has happened, since 2002. Pick Szeged have also lost 13 Hungarian Cup finals to their old foes since 2002.

Jonas Kallman
Left wing

Born on July 17th, 1981, in Växjö, Sweden, Jonas Kallman joined Pick Szeged in 2014, having started out with IFK Skövde and then played for BM Ciudad Real and BM Atletico de Madrid in Spain. His club record is second to none, having won three EHF Champions League titles, five Spanish league championships, five Spanish Copa del Rey trophies and the EHF Cup with his current Hungarian employers.

A Swedish international since 2001, he participated into the Olympic Games Londond 2012, helping Sweden to win the silver medal. He was voted the best left winger of the competition.
