Borussia Dortmund

Founded on December 19th, 1909, Borussia Dortmund is one of the most emblematic clubs in the German league. Based in Dortmund in the Ruhr basin, the BVB has a longstanding rivalry with its neighbour Schalke 04, the other major club in North Rhine-Westphalia. The club is also known for the fervour of its fans, with the Signal Iduna Park stadium consistently ranking among the best attendance in Europe. 

The first team is currently coached by Swiss technician Lucien Favre, well known in Ligue 1 Conforama after his time on the OGC Nice bench between 2016 and 2018. 

In terms of record, the Ruhr club has won 8 German Championship titles, 4 German Cups and 6 German Super Cups. Finalist in 2013 against Bayern Munich's rival, BVB won their only Champions League in 1997, after having beaten Juventus Turin 3-1 in final.

Consecutive to the Champions League Round of 16 draw made in Nyon on December 16th, 2019, the two teams will be facing in the first leg at Signal Iduna Park on February 18th, 2020. The Parisians lost 2-1 in Dortmund (goals from Håland for Borussia and Neymar Jr. for Paris Saint-Germain). On the return match at Parc des Princes behind closed doors, the Red and Blue have been victorious 2 - 0 with goals from Neymar Jr. and Juan Bernat, qualifying themselves to the quarter-finals.

The 2011-12 season is still remembered by the club's fans today. That year, despite a sluggish start to the season, the BVB players won both the German Cup and the Championship title, twice overtaking their Bayern Munich rivals. Led by the inevitable Robert Lewandowski, who scored 35 goals, and coached by Jürgen Klopp, Borussia enjoyed one of the best seasons in its history.

Jadon Sancho

Born on March 25th, 2000, in London, Jadon Sancho has been playing on the right side of the Borussia Dortmund attack since 2017. After completing his youth career at Watford and Manchester City, he signed his first professional contract with the BVB, only 17 years old. He finished the 2018-19 season with 13 goals and 18 assists, a superb performance for a player of his generation. With the England national team, he won the U17 World Cup in 2017.

Signal Iduna Park

Signal Iduna Park was inaugurated on April 2nd, 1974, two years before it became the official home stadium of the Dortmund's first team in first division. Recently renovated, it is now able to accommodate more than 81,000 spectators in match configuration.

The stadium also hosted several matches of the 2006 Football World Cup, and many matches will take place there again during the 2024 European Football Championship in Germany.
