Did you know?

Raymond Kopa is a veritable Angers icon: the 1958 European Footballer of the Year wore the club’s colours with pride from 1949 to 1951. Spotted during the French national youth football trials of 1949, he subsequently signed a contract with Angers, for whom he scored 14 goals. To honour their former star, Angers decided to change the name of their stadium to “Stade Raymond-Kopa” in 2017.

Player to watch

Angelo Fulgini

Born in Abidjan in 1996, Angelo Fulgini is an up-and-coming and talented midfielder. On the first day of the 2015/2016 campaign, Fulgini found the back of the net after just four minutes, thereby becoming the first goalscorer of the Ligue 2 Dominos season. The promising youngster created another piece of history for himself the following term, notching the second division’s fastest-ever hat-trick versus Orléans on 21 April 2017. Three months later, he put pen to paper on a four-year contract with Angers, and scored his first goal for the club – against Bordeaux – on the opening day of the Ligue 1 Conforama season.
Having played for France at various youth levels, he was recently handed three caps by Sylvain Ripoll, France’s U-21 coach.

On 6 March 2017, a few days after the death of Raymond Kopa in Angers, the town’s mayor proposed bestowing the name of the former star on the arena, a suggestion that was met with unanimous approval.
