Amiens Sporting Club

Founded in 1901 as Amiens Athletic Club, the club were renamed Sporting Club d’Amiens on their merger with Amiens Sport, another club from the city, in 1961. They took on their current name in 1989, when they adopted a logo inspired by the city’s coat of arms, which features two unicorns. The mythical animal is a symbol of Amiens and also gives its French name to the club’s home ground, the Stade de la Licorne.

The decision to appoint Christophe Pélissier as head coach in summer 2015 has proved to be a wise one. In 2016/17, after spending more than 50 years yo-yoing between Division 2 and the amateur leagues, Amiens SC won promotion to Ligue 1 Conforama for the first time in their history. In their first season in the French top flight, Les Amiénois finished a creditable 13th place, thanks in no small part to their defence, one of the tightest in the country.

On June 19th, 2019, le club announced through a press release the appointment of Luka Elsner as the new coach of the first team. The Slovenian technician was previously on the bench of Union Saint-Gilloise, in Belgium.

Amiens SC’s historic promotion to Ligue 1 Conforama for the 2017/18 season was the culmination of a stunning rise through the French leagues, one that saw the club promoted three times in a row between 2015 and 2017, from National to Ligue 2 Dominos and then the top flight Ligue 1 Conforama. Pélissier was in charge for all three of those campaigns.

Thomas Monconduit

Starting out as a left-sided defender, Thomas Monconduit learned his trade at AJ Auxerre, alongside players of the calibre of Yaya Sanogo and Willy Boly. In June 2015, having spent a whole season without a club, the midfielder signed for Amiens SC, when the club was still in the National, the French third tier. Monconduit then helped his side achieve successive promotions to Ligue 2 Dominos and then Ligue 1 Conforama. Appointed club captain by Pélissier for the 2016/17 season, he recently signed a contract extension that runs up to 2021.
