Paris vs Nîmes


Founded in 1960, USAM Nîmes enjoyed its glory years three decades ago, claiming four league crowns and three French Cup trophies between 1988 and 1993. One of their best-ever seasons came in 1993-94, when they ended up second in the league, held aloft the French Cup, and finished third in the EHF Champions League – their most successful European run to date.

In season 2017-18, USAM Nîmes Gard finished at a promising eighth position, a very good performance from Frank Maurice's players. At the end of the 2018-19 season, Nîmes carried out once again a great championship ended a the 5th position, just behind HBC Nantes.

At the end of the 2019-20 season of Lidl Starligue, the club finished at an excellent 3rd position, behind HBC Nantes.


On May 5th, 2018, in the final of the French Cup, when Daniel Narcisse's teammates had defeated them 32-26 at the AccorHotels Arena.

On October 3rd, 2019, the Nîmois received the Parisians on matchday 5. The Red and Blue won 28-3 1thanks in particular to the excellent performance of Nedim Remili (10 goals). On the return match in Paris, Nikola Karabatic's teammates have defeated them once again 39 - 29,  with Kylian Mbappé as special guest at Coubertin.

On November 14th, 2020, the Parisians went to the Salle du Parnasse in Nîmes, as part of Lidl Starligue matchday 8. The Red and Blue signed an 8th consecutive victory in the championship, by winning 31 - 27, with a great performance of goalkeeper Vincent Gerard.

On March 5yth, 2018, the club lost against Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the French Cup.

Mikkel Hansen

Left back 22/10/1987
Mikkel Hansen is the world reference in his position and in his sport. With Denmark, the left-back has won several international titles including the Olympic title in 2016 and the World Championship in 2019. Within Paris Saint-Germain, the Danish player is not to be outdone, and played a major part in building the dominant Red and Blue team. On September 10th, 2015, the Red and Blue were receiving USAM Nîmes on behalf of the Lidl Starligue championship. That evening, Mikkel Hansen converted no less than 9 penalties, a personal record in the championship!

Rémi Desbonnet

Goalkeeper 28/02/1992
Trained at Montpellier Handball, Rémi Desbonnet has been playing for USAM Nîmes since 2013. He discovered the Champions League in 2012 under the Montpellier colours and scored one of the most beautiful goals of the competition. In 2013 and with the arrival of Thierry Omeyer, he decided to join USAM in order to secure a starting place. This choice paid off, and in the 2017-18 season, he became the best goalkeeper in the Lidl Starligue under his new colours, with 322 saves and one of the best save-to-shoot ratios.

The Salle du Parnasse

Inaugurated in 1993 on the occasion of the Mediterranean Games, organised by the Languedoc-Roussillon region, the Parnasse room hosts the USAM Nîmes meetings. With a total capacity of 3,400 seats in match format, this modular venue also hosted the World Fencing and Archery Championships.

Practical information
Located on the southern outskirts of Nîmes, Le Parnasse is accessible by public transport, in particular tram line T1 at the Costières-Parnasse stop and bus line I at the Estanque stop. Its proximity to the Costières Stadium and its car park also makes it easy to reach by car.
