Montpellier Handball

Founded in 1982, Montpellier Handball are the most decorated club in the history of French handball, having won 14 French league titles, 13 French Cup, 10 League Cup and 2 Champions League crowns. Montpellier Handball have been in the top flight since 1992, when they lifted the division two title.

They won their second Champions League title in 2017/18, beating HBC Nantes in the final. They finished runners-up to Paris Saint-Germain Handball in the Lidl Starligue that same season. Melvyn Richardson's teammates finished once again at the second position of the 2018-19 Lidl Starligue.

At the end of the 2019-20 season, Montpellier Handball finished at 4th position in the Lidl Starligue, behind Nîmes and Nantes.

Goalkeeper 16/12/1986
Born on December 16th, 1986, in Woippy in Moselle, Vincent Gérard is one of the references to the position of goalkeeper. Elected Best goalkeeper of the French championship on 5 occasions, he has 1 Champions League, 3 championship titles and 8 National Cups to his credit. With Les Bleus, he won the gold medal at the World Championships in 2017, as well as at the European Championships in 2014. On November 14th, 2019, Paris Saint-Germain hosted Montpellier Handball for a Lidl Starligue Championship clash. The Red and Blue were able to count on Vincent Gerard's great match against his former team to win 35-30 with 10 saves.

Trained at the Chambéry Savoie Mont-Blanc Handball, Melvyn Richardson revealed himself under the orders of his father, a certain Jackson Richardson, qualified for some as one of the best players in the history of handball. Arriving at Montpellier in 2017, he gradually gained importance in the Blue and White squad, confirming his full potential at the highest level. On June 17th, 2017, he made his first appearance for the French national team in the senior side, during qualifying for Euro 2018. With Les Bleuets, he won the title of European Champion in 2014, as well as that of World Champion in 2015, a competition in which he was voted best player.

The Palais des Sports René Bougnol

Inaugurated in 1977, the Palais des Sports René Bougnol is Montpellier Handball's emblematic venue, where the club has won the majority of its trophies. A hall dedicated to the practice of handball, and therefore to the MHB, Bougnol can accommodate 2,900 spectators and is today one of the most beautiful venues in France.

During the 2018-19 season, the club had the second best attendance in the Lidl Starligue, behind HBC Nantes. The league's big games against Paris Saint-Germain and the EHF Champions League can be played at the Sud de France Arena. This arena can accommodate more than 10,000 spectators in match configuration.
