At the beginning of the 2000s, the Limousin Handball League had the ambition to create a top-level club. Thus, in 2005, HB Limoges was created following the merger of the clubs ASPTT Limoges and CAPO Limoges, becoming Limoges Hand 87 the following year. The 2014-15 season then marked a turning point in the history of the club, with the title of National 1 champion, synonymous with a move up to the Pro League for the first time. At the end of the 2019-20 Pro Ligue season, the Limoges players were promoted to the Lidl Starligue, after finishing second in the standings behind Cesson Rennes Métropole Handball.
In terms of prize list, the club has 1 National 2 and 1 National 1 championship title. Their best result in the French Cup, as well as in the League Cup, remains to this day a Round of 16.
The first team is coached by Tarik Hayatoune since the 2019-20 season.
On October 30th, 2016, on League Cup round of 16, Limoges Hand 87 lost against US Créteil, who will lose to Paris Saint-Germain at the next stadium. This 2020-21 season of Lidl Starligue marked the first confrontation between the two teams. The Parisians have defeated them 42 - 20 on matchday 6, with 11 saves from Vincent Gérard.
Most of the Limoges Hand 87 matches are held in the Henri Normand Hall, which can accommodate nearly 1,200 spectators.
Located on the western outskirts of Limoges, close to the Boulevard du Mas Bouyol, the Henri Normand room has numerous parking areas in the surrounding area. It is also located 3 kilometres from the Limoges Monjovis TER train station.
