The Sélestat Alsace Handball

Founded in 1967 as Sport Club de Sélestat, the Alsatian club became Séletat Alsace Handball in 2008. Between 1990 and 2016, the SAHB played in the Proligue, the second national division. At the end of the 2021-22 season, the club finished in 5th place, qualifying for the play-off for the next level. Then Selestat achieved a major feat, beating Nice and Cherbourg, synonymous with a return to the Liqui Moly Starligue.

The SAHB reached the final of the French Cup in 1995, as well as the semi-finals in 2008, beaten respectively by OM Vitrolles and Montpellier. In the League Cup, the club's best result to date remains a semi-final against Nantes in 2013.

Sélestat Alsace Handball is also known for having revealed three renowned French players: Yannis Lenne, Julien Meyer, and especially Thierry Omeyer, emblematic goalkeeper of the French national team and Paris Saint-Germain.

During the 2016-17 season, Selestat Alsace Handball was playing in the Liqui Moly Starligue, and had crossed paths with Paris Saint-Germain Handball. On matchday 5, the Red and Blue had won 38 - 25, before winning again in the return match 32 - 19.

On February 17, 2017, Thierry Omeyer was playing his last game against his training club, which he had left in the summer of 2000 to join Montpellier.

Yoann Gibelin Left back November 26, 1999

Yoann Gibelin signed his first professional contract with US Créteil, after passing through its training center. For his second season in the Ile-de-France, he won the title of vice-champion of France of Proligue, behind Chartres. In 2021-22 and for his last season in Créteil, he accumulated 92 goals in the championship, with a 48% success rate in shooting. On March 26, 2022, on a travel to Limoges, he scored 9 times, his record for the season. Going from Créteil to Paris Saint-Germain at the age of 21, it is also the trajectory that a certain Nedim Remili had known, for the success that we know.

Trained at Sélestat Alsace Handball, Teo Egermann is a special player. Initially promised a career in basketball, he finally launches into handball for the success we know: promoted with his Alsatian club at the end of the season 2021-22, he participates in his first games of Liqui Moly Starligue, against the best teams of the French championship. Against Paris, on September 17, 2022, he found the net 4 times.

If the Sélestat Alsace Handball is used to receive in its indor arena of the CSI Sélestat, the main events of the SAHB are played in the Rhénus Sport of Strasbourg, which is the official room of the SIG Basket in Jeep Elite. The current venue was built in the summer of 2003, following the renovation of the old Rhénus.

The venue has also hosted major events such as the Davis Cup tennis tournament in 2005 and 2006, a match of the French Handball Team against Portugal in 2019, and even a conference of President Barack Obama.

During the 2021-22 season, Sélestat Alsace Handball won at home against Dijon (33 - 24), Angers (43 - 23) and Caen (38 - 27).
