SG Flensburg-Handewitt

SG Flensburg Handewitt was formed from the merger of TSB Flensburg and Handewitter SV in 1990 and, despite its young history, is one of the iconic clubs in the German Bundesliga. After moving into the top flight two years after its foundation, the club stabilised at the highest level and won three league titles, four German Cups and three Super Cups. In 2018, 14 years after their last title, the club won the championship in a thrilling final, ending a run of 12 runners-up places between 1996 and 2017!

The German club won their first and only Champions League title in the 2013-14 season, having beaten FC Barcelona in the semi-finals and THW Kiel in the final. In the 2017-18 season, the club failed to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League against eventual winners Montpellier Handball.

Located just a few kilometres from the border with Denmark, Flensburg has a strong Scandinavian heritage, an influence that can be seen on the players' side as well.

In the 2019  20 season, the two clubs were in Group A of the Champions League, with two victories of the Red and Blue. The two teams will meet again in the group stage of the EHF Champions League 2020-21, where they will face Vardar Skopje, KS Kielce and FC Porto, among others.

In their second meeting in 2019-20, the Parisians won by just 1 goal in Germany against Flensburg.

Lasse Svan Hansen's teammate with the Danish selection, Mikkel Hansen has won everything with Denmark on the international scene: 1 gold medal at the European Championships in 2012, 1 gold medal at the World Championships in 2019 and 1 gold medal at the Olympic Games in 2016. Twice facing SG Flensburg in the 2019-20 season, Mikkel Hansen finished twice as top scorer on the Parisian side.

Born on August 31th,1983 in Stevns, Denmark, Lasse Svan Hansen has been playing for SF Flensburg since 2008, when he left GOC Svendborg, the club where he made his professional debuts. In the 2013-14 season, he was a key player in his team's Champions League epic, which endend with their first trophy. Under the Danish colours. At the Rio Olympics in 2016, he won the most beautiful title of his career with the national team with the gold medal, after beating the French team of Nikola Karabatic and Thierry Omeyer in the final.

SG Flensburg Handewitt has been playing in the Flens Arena since its inauguration on December 2nd, 2001. The Blue and White can count on the support of no fewer than 6,300 spectators in their lair, including the Bundesliga's largest grandstand.

Practical information
Located in the university park of the Hochschule Flensburg, the hall is easily accessible by public transport as well as by car, with plenty of parking facilities nearby. The Flens Arena can also be reached on foot from Flensburg railway station.
