Founded in 1968, the Association Sportive Jeunesse Soyaux-Charente is one of the pioneers of the French women's football championship. The Blue and White team joined the championship's elite in 1975, two seasons after the creation of the Division 1 Arkema. In the course of its history, ASJ Soyaux-Charente won a championship title in 1984, as well as five French vice-champion titles. The team has also reached the French Cup semi-finals four times, each time beaten by Olympique Lyonnais.
In addition to its long history in D1 Arkema, ASJ is recognized as one of the oldest academies in France, having seen players such as Corinne Diacre and Candie Herbert develop.
At the end of the 2019-20 season of D1 Arkema, the Soyaux players finished in 10th place, 1 point behind Dijon.
During the 2019-20 Division 1 Arkema season, the Parisian women were playing host to ASJ Soyaux at the opening of the French championship. The Red and Blue had won 7-0, including two goals from Katoto and Nadim. In the return match on February 9th, 2020, the Parisian women won again by 3 goals to 0, with goals from Nadim, Katoto and Geyoro.
On October 18th, 2020, the Parisians have defeated Soyaux 3 - 0 at Léo Lagrange, as part of championship matchday 6. Scorers were Bruun, Geyoro and Huitema.
In the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, the Soyaux players failed to score against Paris Saint-Germain.
Located on the eastern outskirts of Angoulême, the Stade Léo Lagrange is easily accessible by car from the D939, as well as by public transport via bus lines 5 and 66 at the Neruda stop.
